CUBA

I spent a week in Cuba for photojournalism in August of 2019. I travelled with my school and created a photography portfolio focused on Afro-latino representation. I made a second portfolio which compared the images from my trip to the photos my dad took a decade earlier.

GUATEMALA

During the summer prior to ninth grade, I travelled to Guatemala for a photojournalism program. I learned about the indigenous Mayan population and the cruelty they have faced in recent history. I also visited coffee farms and worked with the Guatemalan NGO, De La Gente.

US-MEXICO border

In November of 2018, I travelled to the US-Mexico border to create photojournalism project. I met activists, artists, Border Patrol Agents, and even U.S. veterans who had been deported. Hearing their stories helped me better understand the crisis at the US-Mexico Border.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

Jay Lassiter discusses his portfolio that was exhibited at the 2019 Photoville Exhibition at The Annenberg Space for Photography. His photos were taken in Downtown LA on Skid Row while passing out lunches he made with Hashtag Lunchbag.
